Preview of the Auckland Transport Case Study

Auckland Transport expands video analytics and realizes its vision of safer roads and more efficient public transportation with Micro Focus and Vidsys

Auckland Transport, formed in 2010 from the merger of multiple local transport authorities, inherited five operational centers and hundreds of aging CCTV feeds, leaving staff monitoring systems reactively and stakeholders without timely insight. The agency needed to upgrade and converge its camera infrastructure, ingest massive volumes of video and sensor data, and deliver fast, actionable real‑time information to police, emergency responders, and transport operators.

A solution using Vidsys CSIM with Micro Focus IDOL and the Vertica Analytics Platform—hosted on HPE infrastructure—plus a dedicated in‑house video analytics team enabled scene analysis, ANPR and object classification across 200+ cameras and 500+ analytics in real time. The deployment delivered proactive incident and hotspot detection, automated bus‑lane enforcement, faster data sharing and new apps, and halved batch processing time (from ~4.5+ hours to 2 hours), helping improve safety and service decisions for Auckland’s 1.4 million citizens.
