ArcelorMittal Bremen uses Micro Focus® Data Protector as an efficient and reliable way to back up most of its business data

ArcelorMittal Bremen, a major steel producer in Germany and subsidiary of ArcelorMittal, needed an enterprise-grade way to protect a complex, heterogeneous IT landscape—including Oracle and SQL Server databases, SAP, file servers, process-control systems and archive data—so production could meet its continuous-availability requirements. The challenge was to reliably back up data across varied media and systems to support operations and growing retention needs.

The company has relied on Micro Focus Data Protector for more than 20 years as a centralized, largely automated backup solution managed with external partners, using HPE EML tape libraries, an HPE StoreOnce 6500 deduplication appliance (average 9:1 compression) and an MSL4048 LTO-6 redundant system. This setup protects about 400 physical servers and 90 AIX partitions, 570 VMware VMs and 120 databases across a low three‑digit TB estate (growing ~15% annually), delivers a unified backup console, meets retention and restore SLAs, and supports data standardization and high availability.
