Ameren, a regional power and energy holding company serving about 2.4 million electric and 900,000 natural gas customers across Missouri and Illinois, was struggling with ongoing reliability and responsiveness problems. Siloed, reactive IT processes threatened availability of customer-facing web services (the lower-cost channel), risked regulatory noncompliance, and increased call-center costs when outages, meter-data errors or application issues occurred.
To address this, Ameren deployed a proactive, end-to-end event monitoring framework using Micro Focus AppPulse Active, Operations Manager i and a Network Incident Identification Center that integrates with SCOM/AD, MQ/MFT and OEM. The solution enabled faster diagnostics and automated alerts, reduced IT overtime, identified and corrected a network configuration fault and a chronic Lync issue, and avoided tens of thousands of dollars in losses (including reported savings of $12K, $37.5K and $29.3K), while cutting manual monitoring costs and preventing customer-impacting outages.
