Älmhults Kommun, the municipal government in Småland, Sweden serving about 16,000 citizens, wanted to expand electronic services for education and healthcare but found its IT team tied up in time-consuming manual user-management. The municipality needed a secure, scalable way for thousands of users to manage identities without draining IT resources so staff could focus on developing new citizen services.
Älmhults Kommun implemented NetIQ Identity Manager with partner Pulsen to automate provisioning and deprovisioning and integrate with Sweden’s national person register. The system now manages identities for 2,700 students, cuts manual effort by the equivalent of three full-time employees, and has saved an estimated US$1.2 million over nine years—freeing IT to improve services and speed employee authentication in healthcare.
