Advocate BroMenn Medical Center integrates Open Text Fax Server and Microsoft SharePoint Server for digital, automated order processing

Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, a 221‑bed hospital serving central Illinois, faced delays and patient dissatisfaction from manual, paper‑based physician orders—radiology alone received up to 110 faxed orders per day that were easily misplaced, causing longer waits, lost productivity and billing problems (measured as Discharged Not Final Billed). A radiology pre‑certification pilot reduced DNFB days by 60%, but the hospital needed a scalable, automated replacement for labor‑intensive fax and filing processes.

BroMenn worked with Risetime to integrate Open Text Fax Server with Microsoft SharePoint using the Medical Fax Management for SharePoint solution (including Image Split, Viewer, Workflow and Purge tools). Orders continue to be faxed to existing numbers but are captured digitally, routed automatically into SharePoint, and are accessible 24/7—eliminating lost faxes, speeding processing (files returned to physician offices within about 45 minutes), improving patient throughput and billing accuracy, and freeing staff time as the program expands to cardiology, surgical care and lab.
