A OpenText Analytics Case Study
West Mercia Constabulary (WMC) is the fourth-largest geographic police force in England and Wales, serving around 1.2 million people with more than 4,000 staff. Handling roughly 150,000 emergency calls and one million phone calls a year that generate 200,000 incidents and 80,000 recorded crimes, the force needed to respond quickly to public concern about violent crime and to meet new Home Office and local government performance frameworks. WMC’s challenge was to move beyond static spreadsheets and historical reports to provide faster, more meaningful, contextualised information that managers could use proactively at strategic and tactical levels.
To address this, WMC implemented Actuate Performancesoft Views in January 2008, rolling it out rapidly thanks to an intuitive interface and familiar peer use. The solution delivered interactive, graphical views of a single version of the truth, enabling live data interrogation in meetings, easier ad-hoc reporting, better user buy-in and quicker decision-making. Within months the force reported tangible productivity and efficiency gains, improved contextualisation of crime trends, and a shift toward proactive performance management.
