Tony’s Pizza Service, a Salina, Kansas manufacturing unit of Schwan’s Food Company with over 2,000 employees and a 436,000 sq. ft. facility, needed a way to align strategic goals across a diverse workforce and overcome internal language barriers so individual contributions to overall performance were clear. The challenge was to communicate performance simply and consistently across multiple lines, shifts and “mini-plants” so teams could act on real-time information.
Tony’s implemented Actuate Performancesoft Views to create scorecards for three mini-plants with roll-up reporting by system, shift and product line, using color-coded visuals posted on bulletin boards and monitors and distributed via cafeteria briefing books. The solution improved manufacturing efficiencies and reduced costs, made employees more informed and proactive, enabled better identification of improvements, and tied results to monthly awards and quarterly bonuses, with plans to expand the approach into safety, transportation, training and HR.
