A OpenText Analytics Case Study
NHS South of Tyne and Wear is the integrated management organisation for Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland PCTs, serving about 600,000 people and aiming for World‑Class Commissioning. Faced with high deprivation, obesity, an aging population and rising long‑term conditions—plus fragmented performance systems—the trust needed a single, accessible way to give practice‑based commissioners clear, timely information on budgets and referrals.
The trust adopted Actuate’s Performancesoft “Views” PBC software, rapidly rolling out a centralised, web‑based dashboard to 117 GP practices that delivers fully costed HRG‑level budgets, traffic‑light alerts and drill‑downs. The system exposed excessive outpatient use and frequent‑flyer patients, helped redirect care to community services, saved over £1 million, freed staff for strategic work, and is now being expanded to link primary, secondary and community metrics.
