Atkins is a multinational engineering and design consultancy (about 130 UK offices and 200 worldwide, $3.2B revenue, ~16,800 staff) that needed faster, more reliable project performance reporting. Its existing month‑end process was slow and manual—taking up to four days to get summaries to finance and up to two weeks before project managers saw results—creating heavy IS and finance workloads, reporting risks and delayed corrective action.

As part of its Project Premier initiative Atkins deployed Actuate e.Report and e.Spreadsheet (rolled out to 2,500 users in April 2007) to automate report generation and secure web distribution. The solution cut at least four days from the reporting cycle, sped month‑end close, reduced manual work for finance, surfaced anomalies sooner, improved management intelligence and responsiveness, and helped protect profitability and customer service.
