North Star BlueScope Steel Selects BIRT to Improve Operational Efficiency and Leverage IBM Maximo

North Star BlueScope Steel (NSBSL), a joint venture between BlueScope Steel and Cargill in Delta, Ohio, is a steel manufacturer that relies on IBM Maximo for asset and maintenance management. NSBSL faced siloed data, manual and error-prone reporting, and no standard BI framework—hindering operational visibility, timely decisions and self-service access to critical information.

NSBSL implemented Actuate’s open-source BIRT integrated with IBM Maximo and other systems to create a single BI framework with interactive dashboards and ad hoc reporting. The phased rollout has unified reporting, reduced reliance on IT, sped time-to-insight, improved compliance and operational decision-making, and set the stage for mobile access and future Maximo upgrades.
