Maintaining Strategic Focus at the FAA

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a $14 billion federal agency with 48,000 employees, needed to maintain strategic focus on its Flight Plan by showing how organizations and employees contribute to measurable goals while ensuring accountability and transparency. The key challenge was tracking progress across performance goals and integrating budget information so leaders could identify problems, prioritize initiatives, and make timely decisions.

The FAA deployed Actuate Performancesoft Views for real-time performance tracking and drill-down reporting in management meetings, then added a Budget View and a consolidated Performance-and-Budget view. This enabled monthly briefings to leadership, instant comparisons of initiative performance versus spending, quicker identification of budget trends and issues, and greater transparency and accountability—while ongoing work addresses cost-accounting integration and cultural adoption across the agency.
