Higher Education Offers a New Degree of Quality

California State University, a 23-campus public system serving hundreds of thousands of students, needed a way to bring consistent, timely performance measurement to a diverse set of campuses and quality frameworks (Balanced Scorecard, Malcolm Baldrige, WASC accreditation and others). The challenge was to provide system-wide access to metrics while accommodating campus-specific measures and workflows so leaders could monitor progress and make faster, data-driven decisions.

CSU implemented Actuate Performancesoft Views as an ASP-hosted, centrally administered solution with campus designees and ongoing training/support from Actuate and the Chancellor’s Quality Improvement staff. The web-based Views platform now lets campuses enter, analyze and publish performance data in real time, supports multiple measurement frameworks, and is in use across nine campuses (with more joining). As a result, campuses can track strategic initiatives, support accreditation and awards processes, and respond to results much faster than under prior manual reporting processes.
