Bank of East Asia - Customer Case Study

Bank of East Asia, Hong Kong’s largest independent local bank (HK$396.6 billion in assets at mid‑2008), faced a regulatory reporting challenge driven by dependence on specialist third‑party software: limited report formats, manual Excel processing for users, and constrained delivery options. The bank’s goals were to remove vendor dependency, expand user reporting, and provide multiple deliverables from a single data source.

BEA built an open, repeatable pipeline: extract data from Temenos T24 into MySQL, transform with scripts, and generate parameter‑driven reports using Eclipse BIRT published via Actuate iServer on Red Hat Linux. The solution delivered dynamic, drill‑down reports for Bank of England and HMRC filings, reduced production time and manual work, improved transparency and auditability, and enabled flexible exports, scheduled delivery and future dashboarding—replacing many legacy reports and vendor constraints.
