Back From Crisis

St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital (STEGH) is a 166‑bed community hospital in St. Thomas, Ontario, serving about 89,000 residents. By fiscal 2006/07 the hospital faced a financial crisis despite high patient volumes and a large staff, so leaders implemented ActuateOne for Performance Analytics to standardize data, clarify priorities and drive recovery.

Using a single data repository and four strategic KPIs (workforce, patient experience, partnerships and fiscal performance), STEGH rolled out a “Hospital Performance Board” and regular reporting to staff. The initiative improved transparency and alignment across business, IT and operations, contained an MRSA outbreak, raised patient ratings to 94%, and helped deliver $3.1M in savings and additional revenue by March 2007, plus an operational surplus and stronger financial controls.
