China UnionPay, a major player in China’s bankcard industry, faced the challenge of rapidly scaling its financial cloud infrastructure while supporting critical applications across multiple data centers. With OpenStack powering its UnionPay Cloud, the company needed to speed up resource delivery, improve resilience, and support a growing user base and transaction volume.

OpenStack helped China UnionPay build a dedicated cloud team and deploy a large-scale platform spanning 1,200 compute nodes, 10,000 cores, and about 2.0 petabytes of storage. The shift reduced provisioning time from days to minutes, migrated more than 150 production applications, and now supports 500 million users and 50 million daily transactions, with peak throughput of 3,000 transactions per second.
