Oak Ridge National Laboratory Delivers Accessible, Powerful Supercomputing Environment with Red Hat OpenStack Platform

Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) needed a flexible, scalable cloud foundation to support its Compute and Data Environment for Science (CADES) and extend access to its supercomputing resources for a wider range of scientific research projects. The laboratory wanted self-service, Infrastructure-as-a-Service capabilities that could handle data-intensive workloads while meeting strict performance, security, and reliability needs, and it chose OpenStack via Red Hat OpenStack Platform.

OpenStack, through Red Hat OpenStack Platform, delivered the cloud component of CADES, backed by enterprise support, training, and a robust open-source framework. The solution enabled ORNL researchers to spin up clusters, move and process data across facilities, and run diverse workloads more easily, helping accelerate discovery and broaden access to leadership-class computing without sacrificing availability or performance.
