LivePerson’s Intelligent Engagement with OpenStack

LivePerson is a cloud-based customer engagement platform that delivers real-time chat, voice and personalized content for thousands of brands. Rapid growth—driving millions of monthly chat interactions and large volumes of behavioral data—strained the company’s mixed VMware and physical infrastructure, creating a need for a scalable, cost-effective private cloud to support real-time analytics and thousands of VMs.

LivePerson migrated to OpenStack beginning in 2012 and now runs web, application, DB and big-data stacks across five data centers, using core OpenStack services and Puppet for automation. Within a year it reached production-scale, with 100% of services running on OpenStack components and over 1,200–1,400 VMs (planning expansion to ~2,000), achieving the elasticity, cost-efficiency and reliability required to improve real-time customer engagement and support business growth.
