Containers and Cloud: Exploring the OpenStack Opportunity with LivePerson

LivePerson, the company behind many website real‑time chat services, leveraged a large OpenStack footprint spanning seven datacenters and more than 150 microservices. The team faced two core challenges: a deployment pipeline that became a bottleneck as they moved to thousands of deployments per year, and the need for a consistent development-to-production pipeline that worked across private and public clouds to enable hybrid elasticity.

LivePerson deployed Docker and Kubernetes on OpenStack (provisioning Kubernetes clusters with Puppet on VMs) and migrated services into containers. As a result, new-service deployment times fell from days to minutes and upgrades from hours to seconds, they achieved a unified pipeline across private and public clouds for easier hybrid orchestration, and they began realizing better hardware utilization and faster time to production.
