China’s largest cable TV provider launches first private cloud with OpenStack

Oriental Cable Network, China’s largest cable TV operator, needed a more agile, flexible, and scalable infrastructure to compete with IPTV providers and support new interactive TV services. The company also required openness, continuity, and automation for its growing mix of operational and media applications, and turned to OpenStack for a private cloud solution.

OpenStack helped Oriental Cable Network build a modular, automated hosting platform using open standards and no proprietary APIs. The deployment included OpenStack components such as Keystone, Nova, Neutron, Glance, and Horizon, along with supporting tools like Galera, HAProxy, and RabbitMQ. The result was a high-availability cloud with three controllers and 12 compute nodes, already running more than 30 virtual machines and expected to scale beyond 100, improving deployment speed and strengthening OCN’s ability to grow.
