The Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) faced the challenge of modernizing its critical logging infrastructure, which processed 400GB of daily logs for over 1,000 developers. They needed to migrate from Elasticsearch to an open source solution to align with national governance goals and reduce maintenance overhead, all without disrupting observability for Norway's welfare services.

Partnering with vendor OpenSearch through Aiven's managed service, NAV executed a zero-downtime migration. The solution maintained uninterrupted service availability while successfully moving all logging to managed OpenSearch. This reduced the infrastructure management burden for internal teams and fully supported NAV's open source first strategy and cloud modernization goals.
