With OpenProject, the Coburg University of Applied Sciences implements hybrid project management, classic and agile, to consolidate the teaching content in practice

Coburg University of Applied Sciences needed a better way to support project-based teaching under digitalization pressure, so its Faculty of Economics looked for a tool to help students apply project management methods in practice. The university used OpenProject to run collaborative projects for learning groups of about 12 students, combining classic and agile project management in a single system.

With OpenProject, Coburg University implemented structured work packages, Gantt charts, Kanban boards, meetings, time tracking, and news to manage projects end to end. The result was a significant increase in productivity, with administrative effort reduced by 60–70% and meetings becoming 60–70% more efficient, while students gained clearer visibility into responsibilities, priorities, and next steps.
