Unity Builds its Federated Cloud with OpenNebula

The customer, Unity Technologies, required a globally federated cloud infrastructure to support its game development services across data centers in EMEA, US, and ASIA. Their challenge was to interconnect virtual machines across these regions, integrate with network gateways, ensure user authentication via Active Directory, provide workload isolation for different user groups, and enable hybrid cloud bursting. They engaged the vendor, OpenNebula Systems, to help design and deploy this solution using their OpenNebula technology and Jumpstart packages.

OpenNebula Systems implemented a solution based on their Advanced Reference Architecture, utilizing OpenNebula's federation capabilities to seamlessly synchronize multiple data centers. The design integrated VXLAN networking with automated gateways for on-demand interconnections, Ceph for scalable storage, and Cgroups for workload isolation. The result was uCloud, a state-of-the-art, scalable infrastructure with full authentication and network federation. The IT Manager at Unity praised OpenNebula Systems for their professionalism and successful execution of the project under a tight deadline.
