RISE Building a Cloud-Edge Infrastructure with OpenNebula

RISE, a state-owned Swedish research institute, was hindered by the complexity, slow API performance, and lack of flexibility of its previous OpenStack infrastructure. This complicated service management and hindered their research progress as they sought to build a new, scalable cloud-edge infrastructure. They turned to OpenNebula Systems for a solution.

OpenNebula provided a simpler, more flexible cloud platform that supports multi-cluster management and aligns with RISE’s sovereignty requirements. This solution allowed RISE to decommission its OpenStack service and successfully build a federated cloud-edge infrastructure. As a result, RISE can now seamlessly manage geographically distributed resources to support innovative workloads like autonomous drone flights and GPU-powered inferencing, forming the foundation for their future expansion across Sweden.
