Western Sydney University (WSU) sought to address the urgent global need for sustainability education by upskilling professionals with practical environmental management skills. To achieve this, they partnered with the vendor OpenLearning to develop an innovative and engaging online microcredential program called "Setting Your Path to Net Zero."

Using the OpenLearning platform, WSU implemented a solution featuring an immersive learning design with educational storytelling, virtual reality scenarios, and industry expert interviews. This approach equipped learners to develop real-world sustainability policies for their organizations. The program was a significant success; it won the OpenLearning Award for Best Learning Experience Design and received highly positive learner feedback. Participants have since applied their new skills to implement sustainability initiatives, reducing carbon emissions and conserving resources within their companies.
