A OpenIO Case Study
Kayrros, a data-centric analytics startup, needed to manage its rapidly growing volume of big data for its machine learning algorithms while controlling soaring public cloud storage and egress costs. Their previous solution with a leading public cloud provider was financially unsustainable, as high data transfer fees were incurred every time their Hadoop cluster accessed the stored data. They required a high-performance, cost-effective storage system that could scale with their business.
Kayrros implemented a private object storage cluster using OpenIO's software-defined storage solution, deployed on 20 servers. This move to a private cloud eliminated variable egress charges and gave them full cost control. As a result, OpenIO helped Kayrros reduce its total cost of ownership for data storage by 40%, significantly improved performance for their big data workloads, and provided the agility to scale storage capacity easily by adding new nodes.
