OpenHands ends multiple valid pods alerts with Quint in 2026

The customer, OpenHands, was plagued by a longstanding and noisy "multiple valid pods" alert in their Kubernetes environment. This was caused by a race condition in their internal Runtime API service, which led to duplicate pods being created for the same conversation runtime. The alert caused significant alert fatigue for on-call engineers who lacked confidence in manually resolving it. They turned to their vendor, also named OpenHands, and utilized the Quint LLM Kit to model and analyze the problem.

OpenHands used the Quint specification language and tools to model their Runtime API and test proposed fixes. Quint first identified that an initial fix was incomplete and predicted it would fail, which was later confirmed in production. A subsequent fix was also modeled and found to be insufficient. Finally, Quint provided a solution that incorporated waiting for terminating pods to be gone before scaling up. This final fix, verified by Quint's model, successfully resolved the race condition. As a result, the "multiple valid pods" alert was completely eliminated as of May 2026, ending a major source of alert fatigue.
