A1 Telekom Austria, Austria’s leading mobile provider, needed to comply with EU bill shock regulations requiring real-time tracking of data roaming usage and spend, with customer alerts at 80% of a set limit. To meet this challenge, A1 Telekom Austria worked with Openet, using Policy Manager and Evolved Charging to support real-time usage control and notifications.

Openet implemented a real-time policy and charging solution that managed subscriber data caps, fed usage records to the billing system, and enabled threshold alerts, usage extensions, and new roaming offers. As a result, A1 Telekom Austria met the EU roaming regulations well ahead of the deadline, while gaining a flexible, secure PCC foundation for new digital services and reducing the need for costly billing system upgrades.
