Decathlon innovates more and faster at the point of sale with Openbravo

Decathlon, one of the world’s leading sporting goods retailers with 1,400+ stores and over 80,000 employees, needed a scalable, modern POS to support its shift from B2B to rapid B2C expansion in India and beyond. After gaining approval for 100% FDI in single-brand retail, the company required a solution that could support new technologies (RFID, mobile payments, self-checkout), simplify multi-store IT, and enable fast rollouts across countries with varying fiscal and operational requirements.

Decathlon replaced its legacy Java POS with the cloud-ready, mobile Openbravo Web POS—deployed in nearly all 60 Indian stores and later adopted across several Asian-Pacific markets—allowing central updates, on-device responsiveness, strong offline capability and integration with SAP, ecommerce and loyalty systems. The change eliminated the need for on-site servers, accelerated innovation (RFID, Alipay/WeChat payments, a self-checkout launch in under three months), reduced deployment and maintenance costs, and improved the in-store customer experience.
