A OpenBOM Case Study
Stone Aerospace, a company that develops advanced underwater vehicles for extreme environments, faced challenges managing complex Bills of Materials (BOMs) and purchase orders as their projects for NASA grew beyond the capabilities of Microsoft Excel. They needed a more robust system to track parts and assemblies from design through fabrication. They chose OpenBOM to address these challenges.
OpenBOM provided a flexible data model that allowed Stone Aerospace to create centralized catalogs from their SolidWorks data. The solution enabled them to organize BOMs, generate RFQs and purchase orders, and create a closed-loop system to track order status. With OpenBOM, the company gained the ability to follow the entire design and procurement cycle, knowing part costs, due dates, and stock status, which represented a significant improvement over their previous lack of a formal tracking system.
