A OpenBOM Case Study
Solwr, formerly known as Currence Robotics, is a Norwegian robotics firm specializing in warehouse automation. Their challenge was finding a cloud-native Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution that aligned with their all-cloud philosophy. They needed to move away from inefficient methods like emailing Excel files to manage complex bills of materials (BOMs) across engineering and production teams during their transition from prototyping to manufacturing.
The company implemented OpenBOM's SaaS PLM platform for its seamless integration with their cloud CAD software, Onshape. The solution automatically organized CAD metadata, allowed for the addition of business data like cost and vendor information, and created a reusable part library. This provided company-wide accessibility to live BOM data, improved collaboration, and streamlined production planning. OpenBOM enabled Solwr to effectively manage their complex multi-disciplinary product data without the overhead of a traditional large-scale PLM system, supporting the upcoming release of their new product.
