Case Study: Ukraine International Airlines achieves major fuel savings with OpenAirlines SkyBreathe

A OpenAirlines Case Study

Preview of the Ukraine International Airlines Case Study

Ukraine International Airlines - Customer Case Study

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) sought to improve its fuel efficiency but lacked the precise data to understand which of its many procedures were most effective and to what extent they were being followed by pilots. The airline partnered with vendor OpenAirlines and implemented their SkyBreathe fuel management system to gain this detailed insight and better manage its fuel-saving initiatives.

OpenAirlines' SkyBreathe solution provided the analytics to measure the adoption and impact of specific procedures, such as optimized climb schedules and reduced flap usage. The results were significant; for example, a change in take-off flaps on just five Embraer 190 aircraft saved over 36,000 kg of fuel per year. UIA also used OpenAirlines' MyFuelCoach EFB application to guide pilots, which helped increase adherence to one-engine taxiing procedures from under 20% to nearly 80%, further contributing to substantial annual fuel savings.
