Case Study: SpiceJet achieves fuel savings and lower emissions with OpenAirlines SkyBreathe

A OpenAirlines Case Study

Preview of the SpiceJet Case Study

Saving fuel, reducing emissions and a culture of improvement at SpiceJet

SpiceJet, a major Indian low-cost airline, faced the challenge of reducing its largest operational cost: fuel consumption. The airline sought to improve data integrity and fuel efficiency to achieve significant cost savings and reduce emissions. To address this, SpiceJet partnered with the vendor OpenAirlines to implement its SkyBreathe® fuel efficiency solution.

OpenAirlines' solution provided SpiceJet with a data-driven platform to monitor and analyze fuel usage, identify best practices, and engage pilots through the MyFuelCoach mobile app. The results were achieved rapidly, with SpiceJet saving $3.3 million USD, 6,200 tonnes of fuel, and 20,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions within the first six months. The program achieved a full return on investment in just four to five months and helped instill a lasting culture of fuel efficiency throughout the organization.
