AI-driven Aircraft Performance Monitoring at Smartwings

Smartwings, the largest Czech airline, faced significant challenges in its Aircraft Performance Monitoring (APM) process due to a diverse fleet, outdated data collection methods relied on antiquated Boeing software. The airline needed a more efficient way to monitor airframe and engine degradation to improve fuel planning, comply with new EASA regulations, and increase flight crew confidence. To address this, they turned to the vendor OpenAirlines.

OpenAirlines implemented its SkyBreathe® APM module, an AI-powered tool that automatically analyzes flight data to provide accurate and actionable performance insights. This solution automated the entire process, from data collection to analysis, and provided user-friendly dashboards and automated alerts. As a result, Smartwings saved approximately 1% on fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions by 7 million kilograms in 2022, while also significantly reducing manual workload and enabling proactive maintenance.
