Case Study: UBS achieves reliable, confidential global email security and compliance with Open Systems Secure Email Gateway

A Open Systems Case Study

Preview of the UBS Case Study

UBS works with highest standards of reliability and confidentiality

UBS, the global bank with strong Swiss roots, needed to replace a mature email filtering system without degrading user experience while meeting stringent Swiss-based reliability, confidentiality and regulatory requirements. With employees receiving more than 130 million emails per month—over 70% (≈90 million) of which were spam—UBS required a solution that supported physically segregated security zones and tight identity-based access controls. The bank engaged Open Systems and its Secure Email Gateway to address these challenges.

Open Systems deployed its Secure Email Gateway integrated with UBS’s central Identity Management system, filtering inbound mail before delivery and operating within the bank’s physically segregated zones and 24x7 operational model. The service reliably blocks the bulk of unwanted mail (over 70%, ≈90M messages/month), is tightly integrated into UBS email operations, and enables fast response via continuous cooperation between UBS and the Open Systems Mission Control Center. Ongoing tuning with Open Systems’ security engineers has improved filter success rates and user experience, making Open Systems a trusted long‑term partner.
