Case Study: Policy Kitchen (foraus) achieves crowd-sourced policy innovation with Open Social

A Open Social Case Study

Preview of the Policy Kitchen Case Study

Publically crowd-source solutions

Policy Kitchen, an online community created by Swiss think tank foraus, needed a way to publicly crowd‑source solutions and foster participatory policy‑making on foreign policy issues. They partnered with Open Social to build a dedicated platform using Open Social’s community software, the Crowd Innovation extension, real‑time collaboration features and a native mobile app to match their open, bottom‑up methodology.

Open Social implemented the Policy Kitchen platform (launched in 2018) with structured challenge phases, idea creation, voting and real‑time collaboration, and tools to turn contributions into publishable reports for policy‑makers. The result: Policy Kitchen has grown to over 1,300 global users, delivered 55+ workshops, collected 55+ ideas and helped produce 7 new policy publications, demonstrating measurable impact in crowd‑sourced policy development.
