Case Study: Biotechnology Innovation Organization achieves rapid COVID-19 resource matching with Open Social

A Open Social Case Study

Preview of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization Case Study

Connecting Experts during a Crisis

Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) needed a fast, central way to match urgent COVID-19 needs — manufacturing capacity, supplies and expertise — with available resources to ensure continued research and response. BIO worked with Open Social, using Open Social’s Member Engagement Platform to build a public Coronavirus Hub that lets anyone post or search for “need” and “give” requests across clinical testing, R&D, manufacturing, supplies and scientific information.

Open Social rapidly deployed the hub (went live within 48 hours) and enabled features like Discussions, personalized activity streams, searchable “Explore” listings, categories and tagging to speed matches. The Open Social-powered platform connected 1,936 entities and organized content into 125 R&D topics, 425 “give” topics and 114 “need” topics, helping stakeholders quickly share resources, expertise and critical supplies.
