A Open iT Case Study
TotalEnergies, a global energy company, needed better visibility and control over its high-end Exploration & Production software costs as falling oil and gas prices pushed it to manage spending more efficiently. The company had limited insight into how applications were being used, which made it difficult to optimize licenses, support negotiations, and reduce underused software spend. Open iT’s Usage Metering and Optimization Software was selected to address these challenges.
Open iT implemented usage dashboards, detailed reports, and automated license harvesting to track active and inactive use across TotalEnergies’ E&P applications. With this data, TotalEnergies identified underutilized software, renegotiated vendor agreements, and adopted a consumption-based model that better matched license supply to actual demand. The result was a nearly 40% reduction in E&P software costs, a 2004% return on investment in the first year, and the ability to stop paying for inactive licenses.
