A Open iT Case Study

Preview of the Burns & McDonnell Case Study

How Burns & McDonnell Leverages Digital Transformation for a Competitive Advantage

Burns & McDonnell, a global professional construction services company with more than 11,000 employees, needed a better way to track usage of 400+ engineering design applications across multiple business lines and licensing models. As acquisitions created duplicate licenses and software contracts, the company turned to Open iT and its LicenseAnalyzer2020 product to gain accurate usage data for cost negotiation, showback, and standardized reporting across on-premise, private, cloud, SaaS, subscription, named user, and concurrent licenses.

With Open iT LicenseAnalyzer2020, Burns & McDonnell consolidated data from 150 license servers into a single dashboard, generated heatmaps, trend reports, and user-level utilization reports, and used the insights to right-size entitlements and renegotiate licenses. The results included savings of as much as 25% of overall software spend, $700,000 in annual software cost reductions, and more than $350,000 recovered monthly in leased license costs for Oil & Gas projects, while also improving transparency, compliance, and digital transformation efforts.
