Pionir Free School, a project in Serbia aiming to create a new model for accessible and free education, faced the challenge of funding its operations without relying on corporate sponsorships. They sought to build a sustainable, community-funded model to support their facility and provide students with tools, all while staying true to their open-source and communal ethos. They turned to the Open Collective platform to facilitate this transparent, collective fundraising.

Using Open Collective, Pionir was able to reach a wider community for financial support, allowing them to purchase essential equipment like a 3D printer and a CNC machine. The platform served as a natural fit for their open-source mission, helping them obtain funds and connect with a global community. This support from Open Collective contributed to the success of their program, which has already served 60 students and helped them build practical, applicable skills for their future.
