Making funding happen for Happen Films

Happen Films, a filmmaking team creating documentaries about community-led solutions, needed to receive a philanthropic grant from the Namaste Foundation. Their challenge was that they were not a registered charity, which created a compliance hurdle for the donor. Open Collective, through its service The Gift Collective, provided the solution.

The Gift Collective, a joint venture involving Open Collective NZ, offered fundholding and fiscal sponsorship services. This allowed Happen Films to quickly set up a way to receive and manage the grant money without the administrative burden of becoming a registered charity themselves. As a result, Happen Films could focus entirely on their filmmaking work, successfully funding their documentary about the Common Unity Project.
