A Open Assessment Technologies Case Study
Nam Dae Mun Farmers Market, a Korean-owned grocery chain with five stores in the Atlanta area, needed a better way to train and retain cashiers. Its staff had to learn complex PLU codes for seasonal produce and other items, but the existing approach of sending new hires into the produce section with a cheat sheet was slow and ineffective, and training often took four to six weeks.
With Open Assessment Technologies’ TAO, Nam Dae Mun Farmers Market built a web-based cashier training and testing program with roughly 250 questions and product images matched to codes. New employees now train on screen, review missed items, and must score 90% or better before working the registers. The company says this has reduced ramp-up time without hurting daily operations and improved waiting times for customers, while also opening the door to future customer service training.
