A Open Assessment Technologies Case Study
ICFES, the Colombian Institute for the Promotion of Higher Education, needed to move its SABER PRO exam from paper-based to computer-based testing while preserving test security, limiting cheating, and avoiding exposure of exam content. After evaluating 20 platforms and narrowing the field to eight, it selected Open Assessment Technologies and its TAO open source assessment platform.
Open Assessment Technologies implemented TAO for ICFES in seven months, using cloud computing that supports Amazon. The platform provided test customization, scheduling, item randomization, item bank integration, IP-based access controls, and compatibility with SEB, helping ICFES protect exam content and results. TAO is enabling 40% of the 75,000 annual test takers, or 30,000 students, to move to computer-based testing this year, with the remaining 60% expected to follow in 2015.
