Mercari sustains zero-touch access with Opal across 50+ integrations

Mercari, Japan's largest consumer-to-consumer marketplace, faced a challenge maintaining its in-house just-in-time access system, called Carrier, which was built to secure production systems following a security incident. The system was failing to keep up with the integrations required for various developer and DevOps tools, creating a significant maintenance burden. Mercari turned to the vendor Opal for a solution.

Opal implemented its access management platform to automate just-in-time and break-glass access for Mercari's on-call SREs. This solution replaced the in-house Carrier system, eliminating the need for Mercari to maintain numerous third-party integrations themselves. As a result, Mercari sustained its "Zero Touch Production" security posture, kept customer financial data secure, and freed its engineers from tedious maintenance work, allowing them to focus more on core business problems.
