A Oomph Case Study
Visit California, the state's official tourism website, faced significant challenges with its digital experience. Their site's authoring experience was frustrating due to an underperforming API and bloated data, causing content updates to take over an hour and frequent build failures. Poorly optimized images further slowed the site, especially for its majority mobile audience. They engaged Oomph to overhaul their decoupled Drupal back-end and Gatsby front-end to reduce update times and create a faster, more reliable experience for both content creators and users.
Oomph implemented a new JSON API to replace the outdated GraphQL module and integrated the Gatsby Source Drupal plugin to enable incremental builds that only pull updated content. They optimized image processing by creating pre-sized derivatives and removed deprecated code. These changes drastically reduced build times from over an hour to just minutes and eliminated build failures. The site's page weight decreased by up to 86%, and Core Web Vitals scores improved significantly, resulting in a much faster and more efficient experience for visitors and the content team alike.
