Utilities Company, a fossil-fuel distributor in the energy industry, wanted to evaluate whether it could reduce costs and improve efficiency by consolidating four data centres down to two. OnX Enterprise Solutions supported the assessment using a Technology Cost Management (TCM) study to model the financial and technical impact of potential downsizing options.

OnX Enterprise Solutions compared both a two-data-centre and three-data-centre scenario against the company’s existing four-site model. The analysis showed that any savings from reduced facilities and management costs would be offset by higher telecommunications and application costs between sites, so the company was advised to keep its current data centre footprint.
