Atikokan General Hospital undertook an $11.3M, two-year addition and renovation project (completed July 2017) that involved a geographically dispersed team — Manshield Construction in Thunder Bay (~2,000 km away), Kasian in Toronto, and the Ministry of Health and Long‑Term Care of Ontario (~1,700 km away). The primary challenge was coordinating documents and decisions across those distances; Project Manager Michael Paquette called an electronic system “a godsend with time saved.” To solve this, the team used Onware’s collaborative online document management system.

Onware delivered a single, always-current online platform that eliminated reliance on seven‑day courier deliveries and on any single person for information, letting stakeholders access up-to-date documents and resolve questions quickly. The result was faster coordination across all four project phases, smoother phased turnovers by Manshield, and successful delivery of 8,900 sq. ft. of new space plus 6,200 sq. ft. renovated (adding four acute and four long‑term beds) — clear time savings and improved collaboration attributed to Onware.
