A OnStrategy Case Study
The County of San Bernardino’s Purchasing Department — made up of four divisions (Procurement, Printing, Mail Services and Logistics) — needed a department-wide strategic plan while also integrating succession planning and driving a culture shift. To tackle these interconnected challenges, the leadership team engaged OnStrategy (facilitators Lorna Shepard and Katie Champagne) for focused strategy and culture planning support.
OnStrategy led a pragmatic planning session with the 12-person leadership team (representing a larger staff of 70), helping them prioritize culture change, cross-functional collaboration, succession planning, mentoring and skill development. The engagement generated actionable ideas to boost efficiency and collaboration, aligned division leaders around shared strengths and weaknesses, and produced a race-ready strategic plan for FY 2020 — launching an ongoing effort to implement succession and culture improvements across the County of San Bernardino.
