How the University of Delaware Blue Hens Manage Emergency Notification on Campus

The University of Delaware needed a state-of-the-art, user-friendly mass notification system to rapidly and reliably reach students, faculty and staff across four campuses (and overseas teaching sites) via voice, text and email. To meet those requirements UD chose OnSolve’s Send Word Now service so stakeholders could self-manage contact information and the university could target alerts by campus, building or residence hall.

OnSolve implemented Send Word Now across the university and extended access to local partners (including Newark Fire and Police), with clear best practices and a chain of command for alerting. In a March 2008 test the system reached 214,000 contact points (cell phones, email and landlines) in under a half hour; UD continues semesterly tests and reports faster, more reliable campus-wide notifications during major emergencies.
