Case Study: Carbon Black Global achieves faster, real-time CAD collaboration for trash-to-energy plants with Onshape

A Onshape Case Study

Preview of the Carbon Black Global Case Study

Carbon Black Global develops an eco-friendly, trash-to-energy plant for municipalities and natural disaster cleanup

Carbon Black Global, a Tennessee-based industrial equipment firm, designs and builds trash-to-energy systems that convert unsorted municipal and disaster debris into activated carbon and syngas to generate clean power. Their technology targets places with overflowing landfills and backyard burning—such as American Samoa, Tonga and several Caribbean islands—but internally the dispersed engineering team was slowed by working across three different, file‑based CAD systems, creating version confusion and time-consuming imports.

To fix that, CBG adopted cloud-based Onshape for real-time, multiuser CAD collaboration and mobile editing. Engineers now save hours a day, eliminate import and version headaches, and iterate faster with a full edit history; those efficiency gains help the company move projects forward to customers and governments, enabling deployments that can cut greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% versus conventional landfilling and substantially reduce fuel costs for island communities.
