Avidbots Designs Fully Autonomous Cleaning Robots for Airports and Hospitals

Avidbots, a Kitchener, Ontario robotics company that develops Neo — an autonomous floor‑scrubbing robot deployed in airports, hospitals and other large facilities — faced a bigger hurdle in communication than in mechanical design. Their distributed teams and external partners struggled to share up‑to‑date CAD data using a file‑based, on‑premise system, email and spreadsheets, which forced engineers to spend large portions of their time reproducing and syncing design changes.

In early 2020 Avidbots moved to Onshape’s cloud‑native platform, gaining real‑time data management (a single source of truth), web‑based sharing and a full edit history. The change made collaboration much more fluid, gave internal and external stakeholders direct access to current models, and reclaimed roughly 50% of the product‑design time previously spent on CAD synchronization, freeing the team to focus on higher‑value design work.
